An Occupational Health and Safety professional most of the time, Stephen also runs two small business; one making Medieval furniture called Sven the Merchant; and the second with his business partner Jonathon Lyon called Actor Fight Training Australia (AFTA).  In Stephen’s spare time he engages in historical re-enactment, mainly Viking, 100 Years War, and occasionally Napoleonic.

Stephen has been a member of the New Varangian Guard Inc. since 1984 and has been training combatants since about 1988.  Stephen started up another historical archery re-enactment group in 2006 called the White Company (14th Century English mercenaries).

Stephen has been involved with the filming of advertisements (Black Douglas Whisky and Nintendo), a telemovie (Noah's Ark with Jon Voight), documentaries on historical re-enactment, numerous short film projects, training actors, providing fight choreography and supplying arms, armour, props and costume, and occasionally acting in local Melbourne plays (Robin Hood, Hamlet, MacBeth, Henry V).  Latest work has been on Run Rincewind Run!, Troll Bridge, Double the Fist (ABC), The Sebet (Sprocket Films), Blood on the Game Dice, and The Bazura Project (ABC).

Stephen also has a solid background in martial arts and sports, including Archery (Victorian State Longbow Champion, Fencing, Wrestling (represented Australian internationally) and Aikido (Shudokan Aikido).
